Wireless networking is quite possibly the biggest security threat to businesses today. Many organizations choose wireless system for the inexpensive costs to deploy and the ability to roam in the office environment. There is a common misconception wireless technology is inherently insecure. This is not at all the case. Wireless technology has earned this reputation because of sloppy or unprofessional deployments. Simple steps like enabling the basic WEP encryption or MAC address authentication on wireless access points greatly enhances security. Other security deployments like RADIUS which can be implemented on your companies small business or advanced 2003 server at no extra cost offers an even higher level of security. Hiring a professional to implement wireless on your network is well worth the cost and offers peace of mind.

What is a Virus? - A virus is a manmade program or piece of code that causes an unexpected, usually negative, event. Viruses are often disguised games or images with clever marketing titles such as "Me, nude."

What is a Worm? - Computer Worms are viruses that reside in the active memory of a computer and duplicate themselves. They may send copies of themselves to other computers, such as through email or Internet Relay Chat (IRC).

What is a Trojan Horse? - A Trojan horse program is a malicious program that pretends to be a benign application; a Trojan horse program purposefully does something the user does not expect. Trojans are not viruses since they do not replicate, but Trojan horse programs can be just as destructive.

How you know it's time to buy a server
- You have two or more dial-up accounts in your business.
- You need to centralize and organize your data (you can't always find what you need when you need it).
- You need to share hardware such as printers and fax machines for two or more PCs (peer-to-peer networks mean lots of cords and wires to trip over).
- You need to simplify backups to keep your data more secure.
- You have employees who travel, frequently telecommute, or work off-site, and want to connect to a network.
- You could benefit from an intranet (your employees who travel and telecommute don't always remember to tell you).
- You have high storage needs (and your loaded-down PCs wince and groan when you add more data).
- You'd like to run accounting software or other line-of-business application on more than one PC
- Your company's growing and plans to add new computers and employees (congrats!).
- You mean business: You want to look professional (and bigger than you are).
- Your PCs are old, old, old and you want to get rid of them. A server makes migration easier
- Your PCs are old or older and you want to keep them. A server takes load off your PC's.

Software Auditing is a very important step in ensuring your business runs smoothly. Recent updates from software providers such as Microsoft coupled with system upgrades can and have in some cases deactivated software. This can result in data loss, loss of access to workstations, servers, and critical documents.
Auditing your networks software ensures you are running compatible and up to date software versions through out your organization. Running different versions of even the same software can result in frustrating issues. Problems like creating a document in a newer version of the same software may not be compatible with previous releases. Cinch Networks will document all software on each system in your organization, create a report detailing which systems need to be updated and verify all software licensing is up to date.
